About the Item
Koni Lamp is made of a single sheet of vegetable-tanned leather that is woven into a solid conical shape.
Traditionally, leather was woven for both decoration and reinforcement of the material. A flexible and soft material is made firm enough after weaving to be employed for more constructive tasks like making baskets or sturdy seating and backrests for chairs. As a designer, Romy Kühne is fascinated by inventive techniques that transform 2D materials into 3D forms. She decided to use the traditional weaving technique both creatively and constructively to create a lampshade from a single sheet of vegetable-tanned leather and turned this soft material into a sturdy, durable lamp.
Koni was inspired by traditional weaving, and it features a circular leather design that is partially woven into a classic conical lampshade. The shade's construction is clearly demonstrated by the obvious joinery with brass studs and partial weaving, which exhibits the passion for the crafting process.
Koni is offered in three color options and two sizes. The lampshade is available in brown, black, and navy blue and the brass studs have three finishing alternatives: chrome, gold and black. Having nine combinations to choose from, Koni is a minimalist, contemporary lampshade that can easily fit in different spaces.
Koni gives its surroundings a refined and cozy appearance with its weaving method and eminently appealing structure.
