About the Item
A French Louis XVI style gilt-bronze figural seven-light chandelier with Figures of Putti (Children), after the model by Pierre Gouthière in the Cabinet doré for Marie-Antoinette at the Royal Palace of Versailles. The nicely cast bright gilt-bronze body with six-scrolling candle-arms surmounted with acanthus and rosettes issuing from the center fluted stem, decorated with three seated cherubs playing trumpets, below a classical burning frosted glass-shade torch, all suspended with by three gilt-bronze chains. Circa: Probably 20th century.
Note: The original model of this chandelier by Pierre Gouthière is illustrated by H. Ottomeyer et al., p. 238, fig. 4.4.1. The design for the chandelier is also illustrated in the aforementioned literature, p. 238, fig. 4.4.2., which is now in the Museé des Arts Décoratifs.

- Condition:Rewired: Rewired for electricity. Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. A truly beautiful and very decorative chandelier, nice bronze casting and in very good condition. Probably early to mid 20th century, bright bronze gilt appears to be recent. Please view all images.
