Carlo Nason
A mid-century modern reference for today’s Murano glassmakers, Carlo Nason influenced the current tradition of glassmaking on an island renowned for it for hundreds of years. Celebrated for their exceptional designs, Nason’s lighting fixtures are sought after by collectors worldwide.
Learning to design and craft pieces from the family vetreria — rather than partaking in any formal training — Nason was working with the maestros at his family’s company furnace, V. Nason & C., attached to their family home by the time he was 11 years old. Although his roots are in Murano glassmaking, he took inspiration from the clean lines and natural colors of the Japanese metal vases he had seen in his youth at Milanese fairs.
Wanting to produce modern glass lamps, Nason worked with his family friend Gianni Mazzega of Mazzega Murano. The 1970s and 1980s were productive and creative years for Nason as the sole and independent designer at Mazzega Murano. His prolific career has also seen him design for other lighting manufacturers like I TRE, Murano Due and Kalmar.
After a mere four years as a glassmaker, Carlo Nason had his creations displayed at the Corning Museum of Glass in New York. The credit for the artisan’s pieces that were included in “Glass 1959” went to his family’s company, but the designs were all authored by Carlo.
Stepping away from the traditional, vibrant Murano stylings, Nason kept true to his inspiration, working with modern and simple forms that are relatively free of color. Nason told Palainco in a rare 2019 interview that his emotions inspired the shapes. And his legacy includes fixtures that are irreplicable and unreproducible, too — Nason made lighting pieces with multiple layers of glass that would be too costly or difficult to recreate today, and some designs were made with processes and materials now unavailable or banned in the glassmaking world.

$2,953 Sale Price32% Off - Quadriennale 4 Arms Brass Chandelier, Twin Shades, Contrappeso, 4 Hues of BlueBy Silvio PiattelliLocated in Tavarnelle val di Pesa, FlorenceThe chandelier takes inspiration from the renowned light fixtures created by Italian mid-century modern studios Arteluce and Stilnovo in the 1950s, particularly Angelo Lelii's Triennale lamp. However, it introduces a unique and exclusive design aspect through the implementation of four different hues of blue on each shade. These color variations create a delicate contrast between each arm, imparting a modern flair to the overall aesthetic. This chandelier features four counterbalanced arms that can be moved up and down and also slightly lateral movement. With its pivoting shades, this chandelier effortlessly distributes light throughout the room. The upper shades contribute to ambient lighting, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, while the lower shades provide task and direct lighting. Each arm has a counterweight in the same color of the opposite shade. There are infinitive positions for this chandelier and the crossing design of the arms are creating a distinctive appeal. The shades themselves are meticulously crafted from spun aluminum and the distinctive line of small holes preserves the authentic mid-century aesthetic. Each shade consists of two separate cones, with a candelabra socket on the smaller cone and a regular socket on the larger lower dome-shaped shade. The chandelier's arms and body are in solid brass lightly polished yet intentionally left unprotected to allow the natural patina to develop over time. Crafted by our specialized workshop dedicated to mid-century modern design, every aspect of this fixture is meticulously considered. The finish and appearance are carefully matched to the rare lamps of the 1950s that served as inspiration. The term "Quadriennale '' is a play on words. It originated from Angelo Lelii's "Triennale chandelier...Category

- Sistema Chandelier by Piattelli Design, 6-shadeBy Bruno Gatta, Silvio Piattelli, StilnovoLocated in Tavarnelle val di Pesa, FlorenceThis chandelier uses an ingenious rotating stem structure and features a shallow drum-shaped shade at the end of each arm. The chandelier arms are designed with two lengths so that each can be staggered at different angles. They work well in any space and suit both regular and low-ceilinged rooms wonderfully. This is the medium Sistema chandelier, with 3 arms and 6 shades. Ideal for an oval or long dining table. It works well also over an island. The result is uniform lighting from above the dining table. There is nothing else like this on the market. There are beautiful chandeliers available, but they always tend to give out too much light in the center and too little at either side. Each shade has two LED strips that can be lit separately. In this way you can have either a regular light or a stronger light depending on how you need to use the chandelier. The LEDs are top quality with a CRI of over 80. This ensures that the natural color of food and people can be seen perfectly. See the next to last photo, where there is some fruit and a color chart below the chandelier. The LEDs are on a 24V direct current feed, so there is no flickering. The arms can rotate 180 degrees, for many possible combinations. See the drawing for the two regular positions. The chandelier can also be rotated when it is lit. The shades can be rotated on the arm axis to meet any lighting needs in a living room (paintings, bookshelves etc.). The shades have neutral white glass fixtures. Please see the photos. On the back there is a smaller Lucite opening for giving ambient light. The chandelier has the ingenious brass finishes of the orbitale collection. This listing shows measurements for a dining table and the smallest drop. A change of drop is complimentary. Please see the last image for all sizes and ask for high resolution technical drawings if you need them. Please see the drawing to get an idea of sizes for the different chandeliers. On the upper side of each disc there is a smaller opening to provide ambient light. Top-quality LEDs with over 80 CRI, meaning that the lighting does not alter the color of food and people. The LEDs are on a 24V direct current feed, so there is no flickering. The arms can be rotated 180 degrees to configure various combinations. As well as two rows of evenly-spaced lights over a dining table, a regular 8-shade star or 4-shade star (see photos) are possible, as well as creative sculptural shapes. The arms can be rotated even when the chandelier is lit. The shades can also be rotated on the arm axis to meet any lighting needs in a living room (paintings, bookshelves etc.). This listing shows the smallest drop. A change of drop is complimentary. Silvio Piattelli copyright and design.
