About the Item
Pair of Small Yki Nummi Transparent 'Kuplat' Pendants. Designed in 1959, Nummi's iconic light consists of two acrylic shades of different colors, one nesting inside the other. The name Kuplat means bubbles in Finnish. As Nummi once astutely observed, ”People don’t buy lamps, they buy light”. This radiant directs its beautiful light through white acrylic inner shade, which functions as a reflecting surface for the light and brightens the light passing through. This authorized re-edition is made in Finland with the highest quality materials by Innolux Oy.
Price is per pair. Available in unlimited quantities in three different sizes and in choice of transparent, aquamarine, sand, yellow, orange, red, smoke gray, water green, or purple. This listing is for the small sized pendant in transparent.
Yki Nummi (1925-1984) is considered one of the most remarkable midcentury Scandinavian designers. He worked as lighting designer for the Finnish Stockmann-Orno Luminaire factory from 1950-1975 and designed hundreds of light fixtures during this period. He was a pioneer in his field particularly when it came to designing acrylic lamps, and was awarded gold medals for his works at the Milan Triennials of 1954 and 1957.
