ABOUT THE MANUFACTURER F W THORPE LTD (THORLUX LIGHTING) Thorlux Lighting was founded in 1936 by Frederick William Thorpe in Small Heath, Birmingham, England. Thorpe was a self-taught engineer who had a passion for lighting. He saw an opportunity to create a better way to light factories, workshops, mills, and farm buildings, and he set out to do just that. Thorpe's first product was a vitreous enamelled shade for lighting factories. These shades were made from a durable material that could withstand the harsh conditions of a factory environment. They were also very efficient, which helped to save businesses money on their energy bills. Thorlux's products quickly gained popularity, and the company began to grow rapidly. In the 1950s, Thorlux began manufacturing fluorescent lighting fixtures. Fluorescent lights were a new technology at the time, and Thorlux was one of the first companies to make them available in the UK. These fixtures were much more efficient than traditional incandescent lights, and they helped Thorlux to further increase its market share. In the 1960s, Thorlux expanded its product line to include high-pressure sodium lamps. High-pressure sodium lamps were even more efficient than fluorescent lights, and they quickly became the standard for industrial lighting. Thorlux's success in the industrial lighting market helped to make it one of the leading lighting manufacturers in the UK. Thorlux continued to grow and innovate throughout the 1970s and 1980s. The company developed new products and technologies, and it expanded its global reach. In 1990, Thorlux was acquired by the F.W. Thorpe Group, a privately held company that is one of the largest lighting manufacturers in the UK. Today, Thorlux is a leading manufacturer of professional lighting and control systems for a wide variety of applications. The company's products are used in a variety of industries, including commercial, industrial, architectural, and hazardous area lighting. When renovating our original reclaimed lighting all existing electrical parts are removed and renewed with modern electrical components. All components used are CE certified and our lights are wired & tested in line with BSEN Standards. As standard our lights come with 1m of our premium fabric three core cable to a colour of your choice unless stated otherwise in the product description. Generally, ES or BS lamp holders are used unless otherwise stated and are fully compatible with main dimmers and modern LED filament bulbs. Our lights can be wired to bespoke specifications, longer lengths, different cable types and compatibility with specialist dimming systems such as DALI can all be accommodated. Lights supplied to U.S.A and Canada are installed using UL Certified cable and lamp holders. As standard we supply round black fabric cable and E26 holders. Please note that although we use UL certified components our original reclaimed lights do not come with UL certification.
