Set of Three Original Box Cube Pendant Lights, Cut Glass with Nickeled Clips

About the Item

Multiple pendant squares available. Priced here as a set of three. Modernist square chandeliers comprising 20 squares of cut-glass in two tiers formed together with original nickeled bronze brackets. The juxtaposition of the circular patterns in the glass amidst the overall square architectural shape creates a striking harmony. The pendant is dropped from the ceiling on a round single nickeled stem ending in stepped round canopy. The glass is clear in color. The variance seen in the photos are from the camera flash. The chandelier can be custom altered in height i.e.: lengthened or shortened for a surcharge. Holds four candelabra sockets. Can house either incandescent or LED bulbs. Due to periods of historic turmoil, a lot of the glass designers worked for multiple lighting manufacturers. Entire sections of countries were annexed by adjoining countries. Borders changed. Czechoslovakia was under German occupation and rule. After the war, from 1948-1990, it became part of the Eastern Bloc. As a socialist and satellite state of the Soviet Union, it had an economy of command where rules, production … were determined and set by the government. In 1958, Czechoslovakia exhibited in the Brussels World Fair and gained world -wide attention for using modern materials of steel, glass and plastic. The country even won the main and several other prizes for its lights. This new style of lighting became known as the Brussels style, a symbol of the golden decade of progress, reform and political liberation. But in 1968, the Warsaw Pact consisting of the Soviet Union, Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary invaded with the intention to forcibly halt the reforms. East Germany canceled and pulled out of the pact hours before the operation. Very good condition, newly wired for U.S. specs. Slight abrasions, barely visible pitting / wear on nickeled hardware clips commensurate with age. Lantern style, Moderne, Modernist, midcentury, Italian design, hallway fixtures, bathroom, entry foyer.
