Japanese Satsuma Porcelain and Bronze Vase Transformed into a Lamp 19th Century

About the Item

Beautiful and important Japanese lamp made of satsuma porcelain and gilt bronze from the 19th century. The body of the lamp is made of satsuma porcelain, the bottom is purple color. There appear 4 characters: two mothers dressed in traditional Japanese clothes, accompanied by two children. The whole is decorated with maple leaf, with golden finish. The base is in gilded bronze and richly chiseled. The feet are in the shape of an elephant's head. Transformed into a lamp at the beginning of the 20th century, this vase has a removable leather compartment containing the electric mechanism and serves as a support for the shade. Satsuma porcelain is a type of Japanese porcelain born in the 6th century, during the Azuchi -Momoyama period. It is referred to as ivory cast porcelain and decorated with gold or polychrome designs. Japan, circa 1900
