Gisela Simas mixes design innovation with precise production techniques. With more than 20 years in her career, the result of this combination is a contemporary design, although strongly inspired by the Modernist movement of the 1950s. Her work makes the user reflect on how time is being used where we live. By suggesting interaction with wood and the frequent use of a particular product, Gisela believes that a piece of furniture - or an object - has the ability to generate positive reaction and reflections, given the proximity to the individual. In this sense, Gisela realized the influence of the celebrated Brazilian modernism on her designer trait when she revisited an icon of modernist architecture, Casa do Sol, in Petrópolis (RJ), where she spent her childhood days. Completely connected with the architecture and furnishings of that place, she realized that her work is deeply intertwined with her memories. It is this feeling of belonging and gratitude that the designer wants to generate in those who come up with her creations. The suggestive shapes of her pieces combine elegance with fluid movements, creating a very personal style. The designer maintains the base of her company in London, where she resided for 10 years, to support her work in Europe. During her time in London, Gisela specialized in furniture design and industrial design at The Central Saint Martins University.
