A masterful Cattelan Italia take on the arc floor lamp, this one with two bisecting arms that are moveable up and down and sideways, allowing freedom of placement within any environment. The chrome cross arm has a counterweight opposite the shade side that keeps the weight evenly balanced. The cross arm spans an incredible 102", an imposing length that can really span a sitting or dining area. A white cylindrical Carrara marble base holds the chrome arms, with the Cattelan Italia logo. The shade is an off white fabric, and counters the industrial chrome arms perfectly, adding an element of warmth to the otherwise hard edged components. The trio of marble, chrome and fabric really works. I believe this lamp was only produced for a short time, so they have become very scarce and near impossible to find. On a personal level this lamp is one of the most perfectly composed lamps I have seen. Every detail feels carefully thought out, and in the true sense of it's minimalism, there are no superfluous details, just an elegant, functional and extremely beautiful imposing piece. As a lamp it holds its own as a sculptural object in almost any setting. A classic that would look wonderful in any setting from John Pawson to mid century to post modern. With the abundance of other arc lamps in interiors, this one has not been copied and is unique in every sense. The condition is excellent. The chrome has a lovely patina, but no damage at all. The marble is clean and has no damage. The shade is clean and has no dents or tears. The entire piece is put together with hex bolts.
