About the Item

Wonderful midcentury bamboo canes and rattan floor lamp. This amazing piece was designed in Italy during the 1970s after Franco Albini. This item is unique has it has an original shape with a narrow base that gets wider and wider to the top with a combination of smooth and straight lines. The inner structure is bright yellow and reverberates the light in a unique way. This floor lamp is perfect for a mid-century living room or bedroom and will improve a midcentury living room or a bedroom aiming to reproduce the French Flair tones. Measures (cm/inc.): Height 100/39.37 Franco Albini (October 17, 1905 - November 1, 1977) was a neo-rationalist architect, designer and university professor of Italian design. Originally from Robbiate, on the outskirts of Milan, Albini graduated in architecture at the Milan Polytechnic in 1929 and began his professional career working for Gio Ponti. He begins to exhibit his works at the Milan Triennale. In 1930 he opened his own studio. Through his creations, modern furniture design has fused the Italian artisan tradition with the new forms of modernism. In his creations he used raw and inexpensive materials. He took advantage of the very skilled Italian craftsmanship. This also meant an elegant design based on a minimalist aesthetic. One of his first successful works in 1939 was a radio, encased in glass, in order to show its internal components. In 1928 Albini designed the now iconic "Albini Desk", combining steel, glass and wood with a surprising minimalist balance, and introduced by Knoll in 1949. In 1950 he designed the famous and fashionable "Margherita" and "Gala" chairs, made of woven cane. In 1952 he created the "Fiorenza" armchair for Arflex; in 1955 the "Luisa" chair; in 1956 the "Rocking chair" for Poggi. In the 60s he deals with Industrial Design and important architectural projects. In 1961 he designed the Rinascente building in Rome. Three years later he designed with Franca Helg and Bob Noorda the stations of the Milan Metro Line 1, and from 1969 also the stations of the Milan Metro Line 2. In 1964 the television he made for Brionvega was exhibited at the XIII Milan Triennale. In the same year he created several lamps for Arteluce. Albini has worked for companies including Brionvega, Cassina, Arflex, Arteluce and Poggi. He was also an architect and interior designer. Among others, in 1945 he created the Zanini fur shop based in Milan. As a writer and editor, from 1945 to 1946 he worked for the Italian magazine Casabella. In the 1950s and 1960s he taught interior design at the Faculty of Architecture in Venice (Iuav University of Venice). From 1963 to 1977 he taught design at the Politecnico di Milano (Politecnico di Milano). Albini has been awarded three Compasso d'Oro, the most prestigious Italian design award.
