This is a very good, all brass, Miner's Lamp produced by The Protector Lamp and Lighting Company of Monton, Eccles, near Manchester, England, dating to the early / mid 20th Century, circa 1930.
This lamp is the Eccles Type 6 which is a flame safety mining lamp used for gas testing in coal mines and is the traditional mining Deputies Relighter Lamp. It will safely burn methane without causing an explosion. The lamp comes complete with its striking key (as shown in the images) which often go missing from these lamps. The lamp has a hanging hook to the top and carries an embossed manufacturers label riveted to the front.
