1970s German Peill & Putzler 'Wave' Ribbed Clear & Chrome Flush Mount/Wall Light
About the Item
An absolutely beautiful 1970s 'Wave' clear ribbed glass wall or flush mount ceiling light with a polished chrome reflective base plate designed by Kock and Lowy for Peill & Putzler Germany. A very unusual design with 'waves' of ribbed glass on the inside contrasting against clear smooth glass on the outside. This space age futuristic light is a design classic having won a number of awards.
The light is in excellent condition and looks almost new considering its age. A circular sprayed black plate screws into the ceiling/wall which the chrome reflective plate and shade then screws onto. The light requires a single E27 Edison screw in lightbulb. I would recommend a chrome capped lightbulb (as shown in the images) which will reflect the light through the shade and off the reflective chrome back plate. Chrome capped LED bulbs are now available which are energy saving and last longer. Rewired and in full working order. The marker's label is still present on the black ceiling plate.

The circular glass shade is secured to the aluminium fitting with a bolt in the centre which sits inside the decorative chrome knob and disc. Two E27 screw in bulbs sit within the shade facing in opposite directions in order to evenly distribute the light. The design is wonderful with sandblasted oval-shaped lozenges which get smaller towards the middle - "ever decreasing lozenges" with the smallest one creating a flower around the chrome disc. I have seen this light attributed to Kalmar Lighting and Glashutte Limburg but I am pretty certain it's Peill & Putzler but I am happy to stand corrected if anyone knows better. In very good vintage condition with some small scratches to the chrome disc in the centre. Rewired by a professional electrician and in full working order.
