20th Century Swedish Set of Four Wooden Wall Sconces

A vintage Mid-Century Modern Italian set of four wall sconces, appliques made of hand crafted painted aluminum, brass and satin glass, produced by Stilnovo in good condition. The frosted glass shade is supported by a straight metal arm, each of them is featuring a one light socket. The wires have been renewed. Wear consistent with age and use, circa 1940 - 1950, Milan, Italy. These exquisite wall lights were created in the late 19th century by the famous bronzier, Henri Vian (French, 1860-1905). These wall lights are stamped ‘HV 955’ for Henri Vian, along with ‘BY’ for the prestigious Beurdeley furniture-making workshop (French, founded 1818). Vian purchased several bronze models that were created by Beurdeley when the company closed in 1895. These lights were most likely cast from a Beurdeley model. Typical of both Beurdeley’s and Vian’s work, these lights are designed in an 18th century Louis XVI (Neoclassical) style. The wall lights feature gilt bronze (ormolu) backplates which are designed to look like ribbons, tied in bows and ending in tassels. These ribbons support gilt bronze oval frames...

A Very Fine Pair of Early 20th Century Gilt Bronze Five Light Sconces Each sconce shaped as a spiral torch decorated with bow knotted ribbon and a flame emanating at the top.  

From Northern Italy a rare set of six 18th century gilt wrought iron arms, candle holders, hanging lantern brackets suitable as sconces, if you wire them. These iron arms are fully handmade with curved scrolling iron structure, decorated with  elegant gilt wrought iron acanthus leaves and gildwood balls and bobeches.. Good age related condition, the six arms have the same shape and structure but slightly different sizes, with minor losses, missing giltwood balls in four of item. The gilding of the arms is in good condition, excellent feature in case of their use as sconces, overturning the irons compared to their original use. Some small lacks in the leaves of the crowns of the bobeches, as visible in the picture details. Northern Italy, 1700.
