PLEASE NOTE unfortunately we are becoming increasingly aware of the recent proliferation of new unauthorised reproductions of this beautiful and rare hand applique model by ' Arlus' which are masquerading as origjnals ie not stating clearly that they are NOT originals. We guarantee 100% that these are ORIGINAL vintage first edition 'Arlus' appliques, when we bought these appliques they featured even ,time worn, dark brass oxidised surface patination complete with their original worn electrical wiring, I have added a couple of photos of the appliques prior to polishing and rewiring , please see IMAGES 2 and 3. Please be aware that it is almost impossible to get deep inside the open end of an appliqueie where it attaches to the wall so original vintage examples, even if recently polished, should reveal a very dark surface patination to the brass finish, inside the arm , because you cannot reach deep inside the arm to polish the interior of the arms and why would you go to the trouble of attempting to do so when it is completely hidden out of view .. We feel passionately that dealers,decorators and private clients should not encourage the production of these new unauthorised reproductions. Beautiful and extremely rare, surrealist hand appliques model number '1436' by 'Maison Arlus,' Paris, circa 1960. The sculptural stylized hands feature exquisite detailing and are made from very thick and heavy, high quality cast solid brass supporting opaline glass globes. This rare Arlus model was exhibited at the prestigious 1962 'Salons des arts Menagers' in, Paris, 1962 and featured in the March 1962 issue of the French architectural magazine 'Mon jardin et ma maison.' as well as Arlus advertisements of the period. (please see Image 2) Please note these are a rare true pair ie with different handed, left and right hand forms to make a genuine realistic pair. We found each of these appliques separately m it took several years for us to find the second applique to make a matching handed pair The visible external surfaces of the heavy cast brass hands have just been polished in our workshop however you can still clearly see the age and patination on the inner surfaces through the open end of each arm where they attach to the wall, we have also kept photos of these lamps prior to polishing so you can see the age and patination to the brass prior to polishing, you can be 100% sure these are original and authentic vintage examples. The lamps are now rewired ,we have retained their original French bajonet light bulb fittings as they were still in good working order. A custom made brass backplate for mounting them on the wall is also included. These lamps are suitable for installation in both the U.S.A and Europe. These rare appliques are a real work of art and would fit well within a diverse style of interiors from classical interiors right through to surrealist. Literature : 'Mon jardin et ma maison.'
