Contemporary Matt Black Metal & Brass 1950s Stilnovo Style Diablo Wall Light
About the Item
A single contemporary directional wall light In the style of a 1950s Italian Stilnovo "Diabolo" design. The wall light features a matt black double-conical shade with an off-white, very light-cream colour, glossy Interior. The shade is supported by a thin brass tubular rod which connects to the brass off-centre collar on the shade which separates the two shades and a circular wall fitting which contains and hides the wires within. The shade can be maneuvred easily to direct the light to your requirements either backwards and forwards or left to right.
The wall light which was made in Italy has been rewired by a professional electrician. The smaller top shade requires a single E14 screw-in pygmy bulb and the larger bottom shade an E27 screw in lightbulb. The burnished brass has a lovely patina. In very good condition with one tiny chip to the outer edge of the larger shade which is barely noticeable and illustrated in on the images.
Perfect for most situations in the home requiring directional light.

The circular glass shade is secured to the aluminium fitting with a bolt in the centre which sits inside the decorative chrome knob and disc. Two E27 screw in bulbs sit within the shade facing in opposite directions in order to evenly distribute the light. The design is wonderful with sandblasted oval-shaped lozenges which get smaller towards the middle - "ever decreasing lozenges" with the smallest one creating a flower around the chrome disc. I have seen this light attributed to Kalmar Lighting and Glashutte Limburg but I am pretty certain it's Peill & Putzler but I am happy to stand corrected if anyone knows better. In very good vintage condition with some small scratches to the chrome disc in the centre. Rewired by a professional electrician and in full working order.
