About the Item

Two pairs available at our Les Ateliers Courbet Location. Inspired by this site-specific commission, the element of light, called “52nd,” plays with the translucence of the luxurious stones from Turkey. The piece is made of two editions in two different materials, each of which is limited to 30 pairs + 2AP. Each lamp 52 features the edition number and the signature of the artist. “I was commissioned to create and design a permanent light art installation on the facade of the 52nd Street building by the owner and developer who transform this hotel in private luxury apartments and offices. A vertical light stripe as a vein in the center of the building, settled from its top to almost bottom, will softly light its surroundings, each night. Warm and peaceful light will appear and disappear as if the building was breathing, in a quiet mood, opposite of the urban restless rhythm. Inspired from this installation and the architectural shape of the building, we have imagined a wall-lamp refining the lines and shapes and replacing glass with onyx or white marble.” Thierry Dreyfus. About the Artist: Working with one of the most elusive and immaterial elements – light – Thierry Dreyfus has explored many of its intangible facets. The French artist has gained international recognition since 1985 and collaborated with international luminaries for public or private institutions around the world. Dreyfus is the light behind some of the most notable fashion shows around the world with long term collaborations including Helmut Lang, Dior, Diane von Furstenberg, Victoria Bekham and Jil Sander among others. Commissioned by cities and institutions, hotels and private collectors, he illuminated the Grand Palais for its reopening in 2005, the Gardens of Versailles as well as London's Canary Wharf, the Cathedral Notre Dame de Paris or the cities of Shanghai, Singapore and New York.
