About the Item

Maison Baguès wall lights, quality bronze casting in the chinoiserie style, circa 1970s, French. Thoroughly cleaned, fully rewired, in full working order and ready to use. Light bulbs included. These quality cast bronze wall lights have a pared down chinoiserie style. There is subtle attention to detail such as the textured bamboo-like base and gentle curving arm. These are features of the designs of Parisian Maison Baguès the attributed manufacturer. Based on the neoclassical form with oriental detailing, the design is unique almost Regency in style. With these features they would suit a range of interiors such as Antique, Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, Traditional, Industrial or Contemporary. Each frame is composed of a cartouche base with exaggerated corners to give an oriental style. From this there is a stepped plinth to a bamboo-like casting which holds the arm leading to the lamp holder. This arm curves outwards, the form of which is enhanced with decorative scrolling and a cut-out in the centre. At the end there is a round bobeche in bronze, the lamp holder and a bronze scalloped cover to the lamp holder. Inside there is a new lamp holder with ceramic finishing keeping with the antique look. At the back of the base each has a metal banding which is attached on the other side with decorative bronze screwed bearings. This metal banding slides onto a bronze bracket to attach these lights to the wall. These brackets are supplied with the lights. Each wall light carries one standard small screw light bulb E14 up to 40 Watts each. At present fitted with Candle Clear light bulbs 40 watts (as photographed), which are included in the price. Each is finished with a new silk lampshade, lined in gold metallic and edged with black trim. These clip onto the candle shaped light bulbs. The quality frame is in excellent condition with a warm antique patina in line with age. The lampshades are new. Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport the lamp shades would be removed and individually wrapped as would the brass bases. Together these pieces would fit nicely into a box for posting. These wall lights sell together, and this price is for the pair. Additional dimensions: The base alone has the following dimensions Height 17.5 cm, width 10 cm. Each lampshade has the following dimensions Height 10 cm, diameter 14 cm. Maison Baguès history - Noël Baguès founded the Parisian based Maison Bagues in 1840, initially producing bronzes.
