Mid-Century Modern Weinberg Mategot Style Metal Fish Wall Sconce, ca 1950s

About the Item

Mid Century Modern Weinberg Mategot Style Metal Fish Wall Lamp with a composite shade. The composite material seems to be a pressed paper of some sort similar to fiberglass but quite sturdy as it has lasted many years. I would suggest using a lower wattage bulb, preferably a LED style, to prevent creating a burn mark on the shade material as you see on many 1950s era lamps with fiberglass shades. The design of this lamp has been attributed to Frederic Weinberg by many collectors in the past but we can find no proof that Weinberg ever produced this lamp. We have gone through many vintage catalogs so we feel fairly confident in that claim. The light measures 17" high x 16" wide, 5-12" deep. There is a metal loop at the back of the lamp to hang on a nail oil wall hanger. Condition is good. See condition comments and images for complete information.

Rare Marc Bellaire ceramic head sculpture in the Polynesian style akin to the stone "Moai" sculptures found on Easter Island. In the many years I have collected Marc Bellaire, this is the first time seeing this piece. It likely belongs to one of his Island-themed lines. Measure 12" high x 6" wide x 5-1/2" deep. Hole at back of sculpture allows hanging on the wall or can place on a surface as shown for use as a tabletop sculpture. Marc Bellaire was born in 1925 in Toledo, Ohio. This is an iconic piece of American design history, designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1946, for Herman Miller. This example is one of the earlier versions produced between 1946-1955. The veneer is a warm ash. The connecting fabric is a cotton canvas and allows for the screen to bend in a multitude of ways producing a screen in a variant of formations and also allows the screen to fold nearly flat for storage or shipping. A true classic! We have included several detail photos so you can get a true picture of condition, As is common with these older screens...
