About the Item
Parenthetical Light is a sculptural wall light trio, finely constructed and finished with fabricated silicon bronze and light to create tension through form. Largely referencing surroundings that overwhelm with emblems, graphic cues and architectural signals, the piece contorts space outward and back again in sustained call and response. Dramatic shadows and abstract shapes act in counterpoint; a deep spectrum of tones is brought out with a hand finished patina.
When Parenthetical Light is turned on, the glow of light from the three hand-finished, sculptural silicon bronze sconces radiates warmth and throws dramatic shadows that change as the sun sets. When left off, the sconces are less than dormant; a rich, high-finish patina radiates a deep spectrum of tones in natural light through the geometry of faceted bronze. Futuristic angles and abstract shapes play off each other and change throughout the day to give life to a room. Ideal for a modern or contemporary space, these wall lights are designed simultaneously as a sculptural and functional work. Timeless and sleek, Parenthetical Light includes LED filament-style bulbs for maximum efficiency.
Parenthetical Light was originally designed and fabricated for an exhibition at Bellevue Art Museum's Biennial: Metalmorphosis, along with work selected by a distinguished national jurors of 49 metalsmiths from the Pacific Northwest.
A professional art handler and electrician is recommended for installation (not included). Artist is available for hire to install within the United States.

Force/Collide
Force/Collide was created in 2013 by Seattle-based metalsmith Chelsea Gaddy as a platform for building high-end furniture and architectural works. Our design is rooted in a mix of distinct geometry, the attitude of clean minimalism and dramatic materiality; the process, always in the upmost care for quality and integrity. Our fabrication process demands attention to detail and refined technique at every stop, treating each piece as an heirloom to future generations. We strive to push the boundary of possibility while meeting every parameter of function and design. In 2016, Force/Collide was selected to exhibit work in Bellevue Art Museum's Biennial: Metalmorphosis by a distinct jury among 49 metalsmiths from the Pacific Northwest, as well as the group shows "Women in Metal" at Pratt Fine Arts Center in 2015, "Urban Smiths" at HyBrid Architecture in 2017 and "BUILT" at American Design Club for NYCxDesign in 2018. Owner Chelsea Gaddy was asked to speak in a panel discussion in conjunction with "Women in Metal" at Cornish College of the Arts and has been a featured artist in City Arts, Craft & Culture and Project Girl Crush. In 2018, Force/Collide received a Carol Duke Artist Award of Excellence at Bellevue Arts Museum Artsfair in 2018 for our line of Deca Planters.
