Surrealist, Brass and Opaline Glass '1436' Hand Appliques, Maison Arlus, 1960

About the Item

Beautiful and extremely rare, true pair of handed surrealist appliques by 'Maison Arlus,' Paris, circa 1960 (published in March 1962). Please note these are a true pair ie with different handed, left and right hand forms to make a genuine realistic pair. According to original period Arlus advertisements of the time these appliques were designated model number '1436' and they were exhibited at the prestigious 'Salons des arts menagers' exhibition . Please see IMAGE 2. This design is also published in the March, 1962 issue of French design periodical "Mon jardin et ma maison' among others so the likely original production date is earlier. The sculptural stylized hands feature exquisite detailing and are made from very thick and heavy, high quality brass supporting opaline glass globes. These appliques still retain their original light fittings, they were originally fitted with pull cord switches but these can easily be removed if hardwired switching is preferred. Both appliques have been lightly polished and rewired retaining the original light fittings as mentioned which were still in good order. Photos of these appliques prior to polishing and restoration are available to interested clients. These rare appliques are a real work of art and would fit well within a diverse style of interiors from classical interiors right through to surrealist. Literature : 'Mon jardin et ma maison.'
