1940s Vintage Walter Von Nessen Skyscraper Lamp

Skyscraper style lamp by Walter Von Nessen for Nessen Studio in New York, NY. Tall, sleek, dark and handsome, for a beautiful minimalist design. This large scale vintage lamp features a milk glass cup shade with additional cylinder shade sitting on top of the glassware. Presents well as a tall table lamp or short floor torchiere. Steel is in great shape with. Glass shade is perfect. Fabric shade is in good shape with no marks or stains, and fully functional, but somewhat delicate and brittle. Provides excellent lighting and has original Nessen sticker. Studio was originally opened in New York, NY in 1927. "Walter von Nessen founded Nessen Studios, Inc., in Manhattan’s Murray Hill, in 1927. There he designed and fabricated lighting, such as this 1928 lamp, the base of which references the jagged edges of the New York cityscape. Von Nessen’s streamlined Art Deco designs quickly gained him favor among many leading architects, who commissioned him to create custom light fixtures for their clients. As one of the first lighting designers, von Nessen’s efficient and streamlined lamps proved very influential to the development of interior design."
