  • Jacques Blin ceramic lamp by with original straw shade France 1950 signed
    By Jacques Blin
    Located in Paris, FR
Jacques Blin blue ceramic table lamp with its original lampshade Shade is original in raphia/straw Signed on the underside: ‘J. Blin’ 224. Hand made in France 1950 Very good condition. Jacques Blin was born in Pierrefonds, in the Oise, in 1920. After graduating from the Aeronautical and Automobile Industries, he taught industrial design in Paris, then worked as an engineer in La Rochelle. He was called up for compulsory labor in Germany in 1943, but refused to comply. He returned to Paris and joined Matra Aviation. Passionate about freedom and the plastic arts, it was in 1949 that he decided to abandon aeronautics. He learns the art of ceramics in various Parisian workshops. At home, he starts by creating jewels and lamps, then he imagines a decorative and utilitarian ceramic in small workshops in Paris and Auxon, then in Indre et Loire. His craft production is limited to the small series to the unique piece confined to animal grails, Noah's ark or interstellar vehicles, which are not without reminding the spirit of his beginnings in aeronautics. The enamelled pieces of the first period are often monochrome with a dynamic volume, almost 'aerodynamic', inspired by life. Around 1955, his meeting with the painter Jean Rustin (1928-2013) allowed him to define the very personal and identifying style of his production: the sacrificial decoration is done by hand and the use of metallic oxides before enameling brings to the background the cloudy or stony effect. This visual and recognizable style of all makes the success of Jacques Blin. Jacques Blin vase - Jean Rustin design Jacques Blin exhibition - 2020 Artrium Gallery Thomas Fritsch...
