19th Century Chinese ‘Sang Bouef’ Table Lamp

About the Item

The deep, rich, orange/red color of this 19th Century Chinese “Sang Boeuf” ceramic lamp on its wood stand adds rich depth to any room or space! The Sang Boeuf (also spelled "Sanggam" or "Sang Bao") color is a distinctive red-orange hue that was commonly used in 19th century Chinese ceramics, particularly in vases. The name "Sang Boeuf" is derived from the French word for "blood," and it refers to the deep, rich color of the glaze. The Sang Boeuf color was achieved by using a specific type of iron-rich clay and a high-temperature firing process. The resulting glaze had a deep, lustrous sheen and a subtle gradient of colors, ranging from orange to red. Sang Boeuf vases were highly prized by collectors during the 19th century, and they remain popular among collectors and enthusiasts today.
