Antique E.F. Caldwell Bronze Table Lamp with Cherub

About the Item

A fine Edwardian bronze table lamp. By E.F. Caldwell. With a pierced plunger-form base supporting a full-figured cherub pedestal & a 3-socket fixture. With its original sockets and figural flame finial. The surface has a dark chocolate/almost black patina. Simply an outstanding lamp from New York's premier maker of the Gilded Age! Provenance: From the estate of Catherine Spencer Eddy Beveridge (1881-1970), who was a Socialite and Philanthropist, wife of Senator Beveridge of Indiana, and niece of Marshall Filed and by descent in her family. Reference: The base of the lamp is documented in the Smithsonian's Caldwell archive - Large Binder 108, pg. 33, A024402. Date: 20th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: The lamp will need rewiring. Otherwise, there is some unevenness to the patina, some fine & light surface scratches throughout, and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Measurements: Height: ca. 29 1/2 in.
