Blue Opaline Glass Side Table Mood Soft Light Lamp Vase Urn Form Decorative CA . Early 19th century rare translucent opaline glass. Period Charles X transition Louis Philippe table petroleum lamp. Baby blue with gold and a hand painted tableau at the peak of the époque romantique in the 1800.
From at least the Iron Age until the 1850s, the use of oil in Europe was limited and the oil was obtained from surface seeps and mine workings. Oil sands were mined from 1745 in Alsace under the direction of Louis Pierre Ancillon de la Sablonnière, by special appointment of Louis XV.
in the period transitioning between king Charles X to the period of Louis Philippe I , Around 1825 until 1848 , they used Petroleum for the lamps ... there was no electricity at that time the arrival of electricity in France was at the Universal Exhibition of 1881 long after the period this lamp was born , so of course as times changed, so did all the objects. this is why you will see items such as this one was later electrified.
