English Victorian Glass Porcelain Hand-Painted Roses Statement Brass Lamp

About the Item

Hand-painted roses on porcelain and a milk glass lampshade are the focal points for this most romantic of English lamps that rests on a tall circular brass foot with a beautiful patina. The lamp is supported on a brass standard, over a pressed or cut clear glass reserve, over a bulbous milk glass lampshade. It appears to have once been an oil lamp, but not all of the composite parts support that idea. Our appraiser says it could have been assembled in the 20th Century using 19th Century parts. The clear glass reserve and the white glass body with rose decoration both look 19th Century, but again, it lacks elements that would have been present for an oil lamp. What is certain is that it will complement an extremely masculine or romantic decor. The painting of rose boughs on the porcelain "bulb" is almost as inspiring as fresh flowers. This lamp is so special, so elegant and hard to find. The palette is attractive in ivory with leaves in various shades of green and gray that appear to be falling on this vintage botanical hand-painted porcelain vasiform table lamp. This is attributed to Europe from the mid 20th century. There is a signature painted with a brush near the base of the lamp. The lamp's base is porcelain with gilt trim that is wearing in some sections. The plug is older and dates to mid-century or earlier. It presents well with an added white shade that is not included. It measures 33 inches tall from base to finial and 5 inches by 5 inches wide. The lamp's harp is old and unattractive with deep oxidation, and it will be replaced before delivery unless the buyer asks otherwise.
