Gijs Bakker Paraplu lamp, Netherlands 1973

About the Item

Designed by Gijs Bakker in 1973 and taking inspiration from the light defusing umbrellas used in photography studios. Bakker aimed to create a lamp with the function dispersing the light. The source of light is a simple lightbulb not masked by the shade and placed central to the lamp. The Paraplu lamp features in the Smithsonian and Cooper Hewitt collections. The lamp is made from chrome-plated metal and silk (synthetic).
