About the Item

Rare Giuseppe Raimondi Snail table lamp designed in the 1970s, for iconic maker Studio Luce. Chiocciola translate from Italian to 'snail' and it's evocative of it's design. A very rare one of a kind table lamp, made of white lacquered metal, designed for Studioluce circa 1970. Sourced in Italy. Sold in a famous design gallery in NYC for 8,000$. The lamp features Italian wiring and can be used with a plug converter which is provided. The lamp is balanced and holds straight through an interior weight system. Size: height 10.24" in. - width 7.09" in. - depth 5.12" in Italian wiring, works with a plug converter which is included, switch on/off on chord. Very good vintage condition, with minor paint losses please refer to pictures for further details. Giuseppe Raimondi is an Italian Architect and designer who became creative director of the Gufram company from 1966 to 1970, thanks to his research in innovative design and materials. The innovative pieces that Giuseppe Raimondi created and his artistic direction, contributed to give the company an international reputation. For Gufram he created 'Margherita' (1966) a table with modular armchairs, together with Ugo Nespolo and then two other successful armchairs followed, Alvar (1967) and Mozza (1968). Subsequently, his curiosity towards new materials led him to collaborate with Cristal Art and Saint-Gobain, creating a series of mirrors, tables and lamps that play with the reflection of shapes and light. In addition to the field of textiles, office furniture and ceramics, he also works in the field of lighting, creating the Miriade cable lamp for Valenti. In 1970 he founded the Abaco studio with others and in 1977 opened his own studio in Turin. In 1987 he was among the winners of the Compasso d'Oro with the Delfina chair produced by Bontempi; some of his works are exhibited in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Victoria and Albert Museum. The passion for design leads him to engage also in teaching and writing for design magazines such as Domus, Casabella and Abitare.
