Lavinia Table Lamp by Masayuki Kurokawa for Artemide Mid-Century Modern, Italy

About the Item

Lavinia table lamp by the Japanese designer, architect and philosopher, Masayuki Kurokawa (1937-), with an adjustable construction in white grainy cast and enamelled aluminium for the Italian manufacturer Artemide, Milan, 1988. The Lavinia is an organic sculptural lamp that could be a building in itself. We imagine it being built in front of us with the same proportions but in a different volume. Strongly influenced by the traditional Japan in which he grew up, Kurokawa created his architecture studio, now renamed K&K, which for the past 50 years has instilled the same quest for aesthetics and simplicity always in resonance with the natural environment. Several of his pieces, including the Lavinia, are conserved at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
