PAIR Dino Martens Murano Glass Lamps. Circa 1950’s
About the Item
Venetian glassmakers are recording working as early as 982, forming a guild by 1255 and in 1291 their factories were moved to the nearby island of Murano (as a precaution against fire). During the 18th c they developed a ductility which permits astonishing fantasy of form. The surviving 20th century factories, including Toso, embrace modern design yet preserve the outstanding qualities of early Venetian glass - lightness, brilliance, and elegance.
