About the Item

Pair of formidable yet elegant table lamps of Japanese porcelain in robins egg blue with golden-metal bases forged in a modernistic leaf design. These pieces subtly reflect the rich Eastern tastes of Frank Kyle. The high-quality interior of each lamp is constructed of white-lacquered metal and solid brass parts. With pearl-colored satin shades. When you carefully review any piece designed by the master Frank Kyle, you can sense the tenderness and love that the artist felt for his work. Of Irish origins, Kyle was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1914 and at a very young age began blacksmithing and carpentry work. He studied at the Chouinard Art Institute and later pursued architecture and design at the University of Oregon. In 1953 he arrived in Mexico, where he founded the company Kyle of Mexico, S.A . That same year he won first prize with the chair "102 Willow UP" at the Triennale in Milan, Italy, and shortly thereafter was showcased at the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City. Kyle not only designed the furniture he made, but he also conceived and executed every detail of the interiors that were under his commission, surrounding himself with talented artists like Pepe Mendoza, Cynthia Sargent, Maggie Howe, and Los Castillo in Taxco (among others) to create the very best lamps, tapestries, drawer pulls, etc. His experience in metal work eventually helped Kyle to develop as a sculptor, exhibiting his work with Salvador Dali and David Alfaro Siqueiros. More than 2,500 designs by Frank Kyle are still exhibited and sold in the United States, Mexico, and Spain.
