Pierre Giraudon Resin Table Lamp with Inclusions, 1960s

About the Item

This unique Pierre Giraudon resin table lamp with inclusions is a stunning statement piece. Crafted in the 1960s, the piece features a layered poured resin with orange coral-like inclusions and a black resin base. The natural yellowish coloration of the resin due to time adds to its vintage charm. The lamp has been rewired to fit US standards and is ready to be used in any interior and will only need a new matching shade. The lamp is in good condition, with slight minor wear to the resin. Measurements: 2.75 in wide (7 cm) x 2.75 in deep (7 cm) x 14.19 in high (36 cm). Note: Pierre Giraudon (1923 - 2012). In the 1940s, while working as a biologist in Canada, he was the first to use products of his invention to include plants, animals, and other materials in resin for academic purposes. He returned to France in 1949 and began to work with this material for his pleasure, adding his artistic touches. As he became highly proficient with this material, he gradually turned it into works of art. During the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, he created sculptures, lamp bases, and objects in colored resin with or without inclusions; in parallel with his creations, he worked for César. Nevertheless, Giraudon always refused to be called an artist because he considered himself primarily a biologist.

  • Aldo Londi for Bitossi Italy Mondrian Design Ceramic Table Lamp, 1960s
    By Aldo Londi, Bitossi, Raymor
    Located in Atlanta, GA
This striking 1960s Aldo Londi for Bitossi geometric ceramic table lamp was imported and distributed in the United States by Raymor of New York. This table lamp features a "Mondrian" style design with a cylindrical geometric shape and a bright yellow semi-gloss enamel finish contrasted by a textured matte black. There is no visible maker's mark. For fifty years, Bitossi's creative director, Aldo Londi, brought the ceramics manufacturer into the modern era with his abstract motifs and vivid use of colors. The lamp does not come with the shade photographed (for in situ only purpose). The table lamp electricity was updated to fit US standards. The harp and finial are included with the lamp sale...
