Rare Double Gourd Table Lamp with Layered Green Glazes by Arne Bang

About

Arne Bang (1901-1983) first became fascinated with Japanese ceramics when he saw them displayed at the 1925 Paris Exhibition, having joined his brother to assist in constructing Kai Fisker’s design for the Danish Pavilion. They would influence his ceramic designs throughout his career, such as this example from the 1930s. Table lamp with compact gourd form, cinched ovoid form on a reveal foot, hand-turned stoneware glazed in gauzy strokes of bluish green and green-brown, Denmark, 1920s-1930s. Painted artist mark and “45.” (Measurements given are for base alone. Overall height with shade approximately twice the height of the base. Lamp bases are in excellent original condition, and are offered newly rewired. Lamps are offered with either a socket with "uno" / washer shade mount or a harp shade mount, as per purchaser preference.
