Unobjects Lamp
About the Item
This table lamp was first created digitally with generative algorithms and photogrammetry and then fabricated with recycled Nylon powder and SLS, or selective laser sintering. The smoothing and finishing process was done by Polyshot Surfacing, which gives the piece a semi-glossy surface, high scratch resistance, and soft haptics. Lightbulb socket and lightbulb are included separately. This piece represents the frontier of modern digital fabrication methods.

Studio Adarsh Nellore
Based in San Francisco, Adarsh Nellore is an internationally-exhibited visual artist and designer researching machine craft, digital futures, and algorithmic design, having studied Biomedical Engineering at Duke University and Innovation Design Engineering at the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London. He primarily uses generative algorithms and advanced additive manufacturing to create objects that explore the role of machine intelligence in design and craft. More specifically, he is interested in what philosopher Byung-Chul Han describes as the world of 'non-things', in which data is often considered to be more valuable than the physical object it describes. Designer Adarsh Nellore investigates non-things by crafting them through his novel sculptural technique, Polymorphic Scaffolding™, with which he is able to autonomously reconstruct almost any given form from furniture to anatomies through photogrammetry, generative algorithms, and additive manufacturing. For instance, his 'Unobjects™' collection is compromised of home accessories and sculptural works crafted from 3D scans of everyday objects as well as anatomies, demonstrating a new age of design in which data becomes material and forms are determined by machine perception rather than human deduction. Thus far, Adarsh has showcased his contemporary, pioneering objects and fabrication methods in exhibitions all around the world highlighting the newest and most innovative in design.
