A Carved Mirror Frame
About the Item
This intricately carved mirror frame was originally a window frame in a magnificent mansion in Gujarat, India. It is made from Sheesham wood and was originally painted. After the mansion was dismantled, all the valuable wooden decorations (especially doors, window frames and ceilings) and most of the masonry elements were salvaged. The architectural style is a blend of native Indian and Islamic motifs known as Mughal, with the Taj Mahal being the most celebrated example. Mughal style gracefully mixes muscular structural elements with delicate curves and carved details inspired by nature. The result is a pleasing hybrid that blends easily with modern décor. The mirror glass is new. The piece can be hung on the wall by a cleat (provided) or leaned against the wall for a more usual look. The piece can be left as-is or stained and waxed.
