About the Item

Many of Carlo Bugatti's superior pieces were commissioned by a number of the Royal Houses of Europe, some of the Great Estates of America and Europe and some of the most successful families from around the world. including such amazing one of a kind example such as this important and rare majestic Carlo Bugatti Keyhole Mirror. The eccentric decoration is characteristic of Bugatti's signature style which gives the impression of rich oriental exoticism. The mirror is made from highly decorated black lacquered wood; beaten copper with intricate detail; Bugatti used white wood and bone in small blocks in an architectural fashion, juxtaposing large and small rectangles to create a dentil inlay effect; vellum embellished with brown wash and bamboo and bird designs - predominantly bamboo and birds. The amazing delicately hand turn individual turnings at the base and the finals to the top are of fabulous quality. Through Bugatti's work you can see many cultural references and inspirations Moorish, Japanese, Islamic, African, European and the British Arts and Crafts movement. The mirror was crafted in the circa 1900. Bugatti increasingly stylised his work, the geometrization of his furniture became a true feature of his work and this is truly the case in this stunning mirror. The mirror is a remarkable work and a collector’s dream! It stands tall with great presence at almost 7 feet tall. It’s base has the option for a zinc tray to hold a variety of flowers and foliage to further enhance the true beauty of this piece.
