Rare circa 1860 Charles Nosotti Victorian Mercury Plate Glass over Mantle Mirror

We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely early Victorian circa 1860 Charles Nosotti over mantle mirror with original mercury plate glass A large and substantial Victorian gilt framed over mantel mirror made by Charles Nosotti, circa 1860, the bevelled mirror plate with a continuous pierced border of scrolling foliate and floral decoration, carved giltwood frame, with stencil and trade label verso for Nosotti's Upholsters and Decorators, Oxford Street, London Notes: Charles Nosotti, 398 and 399 Oxford Street, London, originally came from Milan and was primarily a carver and gilder, and his firm known as a looking glass manufactory. Records show he had settled in Westminster as early as 1831. He produced a Victorian marquetry side cabinet in conjunction with Howard and Sons for J.D. Allcrofts house at Lancaster Gate, later removed to Stokesay Court see lots 199 and 248 and sold Sotheby's 28th September 1994. He also produced a cabinet for the Countess Waldegrave for Strawberry Hill, exhibited at the 1862 London Exhibition. See also G.
