Antique 19th Century distressed Louis Philippe French Pier Mirror with Crest
About the Item
On offer here is a very handsome and tall pier mirror that was made in the late 19th century in Northern France. Its sleek frame with upper rounded corners is typical for the Louis Philippe style. The elaborate crest features a rich variety of musical instruments such as tambourine, bagpipes, lute, flute, horn, and sheet music. The instruments are flanked by many small flowers and leaves. This mirror has a beautiful and natural distressed look that matches the overall distressed look of the mirror perfectly. The authentic mirror plate is a silver nitrate silvered glass plate and shows a few small scratches and many subtle brush stripes. The silvered back of the mirror was painted with a protective layer of Paint. The paint reacted with the silver layer and the brush stripes appeared on the front of the glass. A new pine back cladding was added to protect the glass. The mirror was gently cleaned inside and out and the piece is very solid, without damage, and ready for use.
