Attributable brass mirror of the 70s Gio Ponti
About the Item
Mirror of the 70s in brass attributable to Gio Ponti. Brass frame with solid wood surface at the back and mirror. In good condition with wear and tear caused by years and use. Please view the pictures carefully. Architect, designer and academic, Gio Ponti (Milan, November 18, 1891 – September 16, 1979) is, together with Ettore Sottsass, the leader of the Italian designers of the '900 most sought after by collectors. In addition to the elegance of his furniture, sensitive to functionality but original at the same time, Ponti recognises volcanic creativity, which pushed him to produce and draw a lot until the 70s. His ability to give voice to new trends, often incorporating into his creations the work of other artists, from Piero Fornasetti to Pietro Chiesa, with whom he was in all respects co-author of several pieces, make him the “inventor” of the concept of made in Italy design. A vocation evident in the essays he publishes on the pages of the magazine Domus, founded by him in 1928 and directed until 1940. His contribution was also decisive for the birth of the ADI (Association for Industrial Design) and for the establishment of the Compasso d'oro award.

- Bedside table in the 70s mirroredBy Aldo TuraLocated in Catania, ITCouple bedside tables from the 70s, mirrored smoked glass top, brass beaded, three drawers with steel knobs. Italian production. Aldo Tura Italian designer, from the 50s, inspired by the movements of Art Deco and modernism, creates unique and prestigious furniture characterised by rich materials, sculptural shapes and exclusive techniques. Exotic materials such as parchment and goatskin, combined with bright shades of red, green and yellow characterise his art. Tura favours the use of complex shapes and techniques that are difficult to reproduce in a large-scale production to maintain the authenticity of its pieces. Inspired by Art Deco and modernism, Tura-style objects are always the result of a meticulous process, at the time not replicable in an industrial way, which is why the number of the designer's pieces remains limited and highly sought after on the market, also for the typical colour combinations between materials and finishes that characterise them, often articulated on red, brass, a A portion of Tura's furniture is on display in the permanent collection of the Brooklyn Museum in New York, after being exhibited in the grand exhibition...Category
