French First Empire Gilt Neoclassical Mirror, Early 19th Century
An impressive antique gilded trumeau mirror dating from the early 19th century. The giltwood and gessoed wall frame is intricately and abundantly decorated with winged griffins, amphoras, acanthus and olive leaves, lyres and Medusa medallions. It can also be used as a mantel mirror, above a fireplace or console. Very decorative, and a superb example of fine European craftsmanship from France, typical of early Continental antiques. Provenance: Bernd Goeckler Antiques, New York.
