Antique Art Nouveau Tabletop Vanity Mirror with Maiden Silverplated Pewter WMF
About the Item
This antique Art Nouveau vanity mirror, possibly by WMF, is a unique piece. The faceted mirror is in very good condition, with only minor signs of age to the rims. The original silver foil mirror is also in very good condition. The beautifully detailed maiden's undulating dress is shaped as a dish or bowl to hold cobs, brushes, or jewelry. A small bird sits atop the mirror, completing the lovely scene.
The Art Nouveau movement was known for its flowing, organic lines and use of natural motifs, such as flowers, plants, and animals. This mirror is a perfect example of the Art Nouveau style, with its curved lines, detailed maiden, and overall flowing lines.
The mirror may be a prototype because it is more and better handmade than other antique WMF products of this type. This suggests that it was never put into mass production, making it even more rare and valuable.
