18th Century Italian Giltwood Wall Mirror
About the Item
A late 18th-century Neoclassical wall mirror in the Baroque style, and originating from Italy. Beautifully carved, its giltwood frame features a triangular pediment, centred with a winged cherub flanked and topped by three miniature cassolettes. Corinthian-style carved and fluted columns retain each side of the tall, rectangular mirror plate, while the lower panel features a carved motif of scrolled acanthus leaves. This mirror is full of character, its gilt beautifully patinated and showing a degree of authentic wear in keeping with its age.
