18th Century, Large Italian Neoclassical Lacquered Wood and Marble Mirror

About the Item

18th Century, Large Italian Neoclassical Lacquered Wood and Marble Mirror This large mirror was built in the Genoese area (Italy) in the neoclassical period, in the second half of the 18th century. The rectangular and linear frame is in carved, lacquered and gilded wood. It has a lacquered base in faux Alpi green marble, with slightly projecting feet and carved and gilded reserve. The mirror is presented inside a frame composed of several concentric bands. The most external, linear, is lacquered in grey. Between two elements carved with palmettes and gilded, the central band is paved in Italian marble Fior di Pesco Carnico, characterized by a gradation of variegated colors and pink with veins ranging from white to light gray. Subsequently, three thin and linear frames are in lacquered wood in grey and ivory. The vertical bands finished with ivory lacquered capital and decorated in the center by carvings with faces of women and decorated in gilded wood and carved in vegetable style that fall down. In the center and on the upper part of the mirror, a box lacquered in light blue, surrounded by an ivory frame, is decorated in the center by a rich golden carving in the shape of a double wreath with leaves and flowers. The wooden frame ends at the top with a frieze carved with ovules and gilded and a frame projecting molded and lacquered ivory. This large frame, very decorative and bright, is quite rare to find on the antique market for its size and for the presence of the valuable marble paving of the perimeter bands. Suitable in any context of furniture, very elegant and refined, can be placed in entrances or corridors, living rooms and dining rooms. The mirrored surface will have the advantage of optically expanding the environment, also reflecting the light and therefore enhancing the space. Mirrors are not coeval.
