Striking wall mirror with handcrafted, golden colored grape leafs. Via one of our foreign contacts we recently purchased this rare and decorative mirror with perfectly realistic grape leaf 'sculptures'. This all handcrafted work-of-art-mirror from the midcentury era displays these golden colored leafs all around. Besides the fact that they are gold painted these 'wine leafs' also stand out, because they are very well created and truly realistic. Have you also noticed the solid brass twirling patterns between each leaf? Anyone who has ever looked at a grape twine up close will recognize what they are. We date this finest workmanship mirror to circa 1960-1970 and both the finest quality workmanship frame AND the original mirror itself could not be in better condition. A fine early 20th century sculpture of an elephant. Attributed to Martha Jackson Cornwell. Depicting a stoutly modeled elephant on an integral plinth with a blanket draped across its back and an Indian headdress or harness across its forehead. Decorated in white, blue, and green glazes on a terracotta body and with inset beads or pearls to the elephant's head and forehead. Cornwell was a student of Kenyon Cox, Arthur Dow, and Augustus Saint Gaudens at the Art League in New York City at the end of the 19th Century. She was subsequently an assistant to St. Gaudens for a decade and a half on his Shaw Memorial in Boston.
