French 19th Century Parcel-Giltwood Mirror
About the Item
A lovely giltwood mirror, made in France, circa 1850. This rectilinear antique mirror has a thick frame with a unique design that encircles its entirety. The frame was designed with a corkscrewed motif that sees diagonally oriented ribbings continuing around the mirror’s original mercury glass. The glass is in wonderful antique condition, with some foxing present. The frame also has portions painted in a lovely crème color. Both the painted and gilt finishes have aged marvelously, with much of the gilt work’s red clay bole having become exposed from decades of cleaning and feather dustings. The antique’s style and scale make it an ideal vanity or dressing mirror, but it is not limited to those applications. It has a universal appeal that ensures its acceptance in any space.
