French Early 19th Century Louis XVI St. Double Framed Octagonal Giltwood Mirror
About the Item
An elegant French early 19th century Louis XVI st. double framed octagonal giltwood mirror. The original central oval shaped beveled mirror plate is framed in a decorative giltwood border with finely carved scrolled foliate patterns. The outer border also displays all the original beveled mirror plates, and combines a rare and striking combination of the octagonal and oval shapes. The giltwood frame displays fluted patterns and finely carved pierced giltwood movements at each corner and a rich pierced bottom foliate pattern with a striking pierced lattice. The impressive pierced top crown is centered by a large acanthus leaf, and a lattice design amidst scrolling acanthus leaves. All original gilt throughout.
