French Regency Period Glitwood Wedding Mirror

About the Item

French Régence period giltwood "wedding" mirror, featuring a rectangular mercury glass plate with beaded surround and mirrored borders, foliage and scallop carved frame topped by a sculptural crest centered with two birds kissing surrounded with carved foliate scrolls. Traditionally, the presence of two birds kissing indicates that this piece belonged to a recently wedded couple either given to them as a wedding present or acquired by the newlywed. As the photographs illustrate, the top crest can be removed from the mirror frame. Provenance: A chateau outside Clermont-Ferrand, France.
