French Midcentury Mirror, Attributed to Jansen
About the Item
Unusual French midcentury mirror, attributed to Jansen from the 1940s. Heavy quality construction on wood with gold leaf and a black enamel border around mirror. There is a frame of gilt bronze/brass curls around the edge with verre eglomise "stones" which are painted with green veins to look like moss agate. Each "stone" is a reverse painted crystal set into a cup.
This wonderful design is Neoclassical yet slightly "quirky" in that great 1940s French way.
Purchased in an Antique Gallery in Switzerland in the late 1990s.
Measures 42" x 1.25". Glass cups measure2.5", each metal scroll on frame 5.5" each.
