About the Item

This one-of-a-kind circular wall mirror features a hand-built stoneware frame finished in a matte pewter-colored glaze and embellished with opulent blob-like applications of 22k gold luster. Both functional and visually striking, this ornate and sculptural mirror serves as a captivating focal point in any setting. Hang it in a powder room, entryway or bedroom to create an eye-catching display that adds a touch of opulence to any interior. Artist Information: Ivana Brenner is an Argentinian artist based in Brooklyn, New York. She earned her MFA in Studio (Fiber and Material Studies department) at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a full tuition, merit-based New Artist Society Scholarship. She is a 2022 AIM fellow at the Bronx Museum and was part of NYFA's 2020 Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program. In 2015 she participated in the Biennale Internationale du Lin de Portneuf, Québec, where she was also given a two-weeks residency. She was awarded a 6-months residency at Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2009-2010). The contemporary sculptor creates abstract work that is informed by the body and a greater sense of identity. She writes that her work is process-based, involving material research focused on clay and paint skins. "I develop my own techniques to create what I conceive as non-human bodies that evoke fleshiness, body fluids, and fertility in an attempt to give anima to inert matter," Brenner writes. "Like life, love is generative: it creates something where nothing existed before. As a recent South-American immigrant I find challenging cultural differences in the way we relate to our bodies and hearts. Through my work I affirm the value of this connection almost as an act of resistance to cultural hegemony. Skins, fluids and other sensual expressions present in my pieces reflect the tactile process of how they are made and reconnect us with pleasure and emotions."
