Superb Large 18th Century Louis XVI Gold Gilt Wood Mirror
About the Item
Dating to circa 1770, this beautiful gilt wood mirror is presented with its original mirror plate, which has foxed in the most wonderful manner, the carved wood and gilt gesso decoration, with hues of red glimpsing through.
The detachable pipe, sheet music and bugle pediment is resplendent with gilt scroll and laurel leaf decoration.
There are a couple of areas of minor loss to the decoration, to be expected with a mirror of this age, but these in no way detract from the stunning beauty of this piece.
A mirror of very good proportions.
